The Shawshank Redemption
The Shawshank Redemption is the top on my list of the movies everyone must watch. Its one of the legendary movies man has ever produced. Its one of the extraordinary movies about patience and hope. The Shawshank Redemption is based on the Stephen King ‘s novella Rita Hayworth And Shawshank Redemption. Its a story of a banker Andy Dufresne played by Tim Robbins who spends 19 years of prison term in Shawshank state prison for the murder of his wife and her lover but he claims to be innocent. He befriends many inmates including Ellis Boyd Redding aka RED played by Morgan Freeman. He finds himself protected by the guards and the warden as he helps them in money laundering.
From a filmmaker’s point of view Shawshank Redemption is a masterpiece. The screenplay is bit slow, though its very crisp. Most of the movie has been shot within the parameters of the prison yet it doesn’t look blank. Showing almost thirty years of story in 142 minutes is a mammoth task and the director/screenwriter Frank Darabont has done justice to the film. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman has done outstanding work in the movie. The conversations between them are so meaningful like
Andy : Get Busy Livin’ Or Get Busy Dyin’
Red :Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.
Andy : Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.
Some other dialogs are also extraordinary like
Warden : I believe in two things: discipline and the Bible. Here you’ll receive both. Put your trust in the Lord; your ass belongs to me. Welcome to Shawshank.
Red : I’d like to think that the last thing that went through his head, other than that bullet, was to wonder how the hell Andy Dufresne ever got the best of him.
Andy : You know the funny thing is, on the outside I was an honest man, straight as an arrow. I had to come to prison to be a crook.
The Shawshank Redemption has been on the number one spot of IMDB’s user generated TOP 250 list since 2008. I recommend you to watch the movie and I am sure that you won’t be disappointed.
