Why We Are Crowdfunding Our Mental Health Awareness Movie?

Why crowdfunding movie?

As you know that we are making a feature length movie on mental health awareness and we decided to make this move via crowdfunding. If you haven’t heard about our movie please visit HERE and subscribe. This movie ‘Sarah’ is going to be the most powerful movie ever made on mental heath awareness.

Someone from my close family is suffering from schizophrenia since last 25 years. I saw her despair, struggle and loneliness. I saw people supporting patients from other diseases but completely isolating mental illness patients and their families also. Stigma does more harm to the mental health patients than the disease… so we decided to break that. Ignorance towards mental health conditions is the reason for the stigma. So as a result we are making this film and trying to end the stigma related to mental illnesses.

For Those With Mental Illness, Battling Stigma Is First Step In Getting Help

So when we were researching for this movie we found out nearly one out of five Americans and one out of four Indians suffer from mental illness. But that hasn’t prevented the stigma of mental illness from being a powerful and damaging force. So first thing is to stop stigma completely. Then only help come towards mental illnesses.

Stigma Against Mental Illness Is Built Into Health Care System

Second thing we found out that people with serious mental health challenges are sometimes considered to be different, dangerous or even beyond help. That same kind of stigma against mental illness can exist in our health care system, too. So education is the only key to conquering stigma against mental illnesses.

Its a very difficult subject to make a movie on and hence there are very few movies related to this subject. We want the creative control over our movie. Its a movie about inspiration, hope and making world a better place. We are trying to change the world and we can do it under our creative control. We are not making a movie about a psychopath or a serial killer murder mystery. This is hardcore mental health awareness through an engaging storytelling. This is the reason we want to crowdfund our movie. Another reason is we can interact with our audience at every stage of this movie and vice-versa. This is not just a movie, this is a movement. You are going to be remembered as a part of this movie forever. As Bob Moawad said

You can’t make footprints in the sands of time by sitting on your butt. And who wants to leave butt prints in the sands of time?

Gosnell Movie, a pro-life movie is already changing hearts and minds on the abortion issue was made through crowdfunding. Another artist Liz, started an enamel pin project about mental illness, mental health, and stigma trying to spread awareness through her pins. You can check out her pins at Own Your Stigma. All this possible because they have their creative control.

The writers, director and a lead artist is not a charging a single penny for this project. We are starting our crowdfunding campaign next month for our mental health awareness movie ‘Sarah’. We need your support. If you haven’t signed up please sign up HERE.
